Once there was a great and handsome Prince. His father the King was becoming old and asked his son to go into the lands and make friends with the people so as to be a better King when his time came. The prince whose name was Alphonso was excited and in the early hours of the next morning set of with his servant Tito and his maid Clara and with fine horses they made for Comotion, a small village that lay on the outskirts of his father's kingdom.

After several weeks journey (for his fathers’ kingdom was great) they arrived tired and hungry and made for the nearest inn. The prince had asked his servants to disguise him so he would not be recognized and therefore treated as any other human being. ‘Good landlord – we are three travelers tired and hungry, can you spare us a room for three nights and stables for our horses’. 'Can you pay' – came the landlords reply. Of course the disguised Alphonso said, but it will not be until the end (for he was quick to trust nobody). That won’t do said the landlord because of late my inn and surrounds have been ransacked by villains and scavengers, and alas I have no food to feed you, but you can have all the beds and hay you wish as no one will stay here now, and if you take my advice I should move on because it wont be long before they come again. You leave that problem to me said Alphonso, please now take this money and buy food and wine for us all – and let it be known that there will be a banquet tonight here in your honour. But sir, that will surely attract the ear of the villans I have just told you about. And that is precisely what I want – said the Prince.

Alphonso gave the inn keeper 30 siblings and bade him buy enough food to feed one hundred men and one hundred women. Invite all the town said the Prince and make it be known that not one of the two hundred shall pay a cent – but there are only 170 folk in this town said the landlord. Just do as I say Alphonspo replied.
Pretty soon everyone knew of the event and the village was alive with excitement and trepidation. But also the villains who had been hiding on the outskirts heard quickly of the planned feast. Lets wait till they are about to eat and then raid them – said Fowl – who was their leader and most villainish of them all. Good plan said all the villains – I heard they are having duck – said Fetish, who was the youngest villain and wanted to prove he was as nasty as Fowl. I’m going to be the first to eat the duck and then I will take the traveler's maid and bed her – he said. No – you are too young said Fowl – your job will be to hold back the servant while I bed the maid, and no duck for you either – you can have beef steak. Fetish was mad but he had to obey. Ok – begrudgingly he said.

As the time for the feast approached the villains hid just outside of the village walls – just close enough to hear the Commotion (that was also the name of the inn). He he – said Fowl – I like this plan and he rubbed his chin and grinned a nasty smile.

Good friends – said Alphonso when everyone had gathered for the feast in the courtyard of the Commotion – this is truly a great occasion because now you will all have the chance to look at your enemy and realise they are your friends too. "No no no how can this be" - said all the town folk. Our enemies are our enemies because they steal from us and make our lives miserable. Yes that has been true said Alphonso – but I assure you after tonight it will be no more – now lets do some dancing. There then came seven musicians who played spiral music (a speciality of the region) and all the people started to dance. Many young beautiful women were there and eager eyes watched them from near and from afar.

They’re dancing – called out Festish quietly to his comrades – lets crash in and steal the food and the maidens. Wait wait – said Fowl who was standing with one leg on a broken tree stump. When I give the word.

After the spiral dancing was over – Alphonso bade his servant and his maid to accompany him to the head table. Upon seeing this all the townspeople gathered around and saw that there had been too many places set at the great table because there were thirty empty chairs. Generous traveler – said one of the townsfolk – why you have made these extra places? Patience said Alphonso – you will soon see.

At that moment there came a great crash and the doors of the eating house flew open and through came the thirty bandits crashing and banging and making a huge fuss. The townspeople were afraid and about to run when Alphonso cried – "STAY - BE NOT AFRAID" and the sound of his voice was so mighty that even the bandits had to stop to see if this was just only a man and not a King for the authority of his voice seemed regal. Alphonso quickly quietened his tone and spoke. Do you not see that there are as many empty places waiting to be filled as you are in number? And do you not see that we are in no mood to fight or be frightened for we only want frivolity and happiness tonight. Come now and take your place amongst us for there is plenty of food for all. Fetish could see there was a nice plate of duck just close. The bandits were so shocked they neither moved nor spoke for some minutes.

At last Fowl replied. This is indeed a cunning trap you have laid stranger, for now with out the element of fear we have no way of overpowering you nor stealing all your wares and as he spoke a lovely maiden from the town smiled because she liked him. And why would you want to – said Alphonso - there is plenty for all. At that point, Clara the maid of the prince came over to Fetish and took him by the hand for she had taken a fancy to the boy. What is your name she asked – Fetish – well come now Fetish and sit with me – will you not have some of this lovely duck – Fetish glanced quickly at Fowl who was actually busy with the other beauty – that I will said Fetish and at that all the bandits became friends of the townsfolk and they never lived in fear again.

After three days and nights of peace and happiness the Prince and his servants went on their way. That’s a good start said Tito to the Prince, talking about their journey – yes said Alphonso but there are many more leagues to go until we have seen the whole Kingdom. Then lets be on said Clara for now we are four. At that point Fetish came jostling up on his pony. You can come said the Prince but bear in mind that we have much to do and you shall not know our true nature for some time. All good with me – said Fetish – and it was.
